That’s why Growing Lancaster is celebrating Welcoming Week, a global campaign aimed at strengthening a community’s welcoming efforts. Welcoming Week is led by Welcoming America, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that leads a movement of inclusive communities becoming more prosperous by ensuring everyone belongs.

Celebrated annually, Welcoming Week serves as a reminder of the essential role immigrants play in revitalizing rural areas, combating demographic challenges, and reigniting the spirit of community. Lancaster, like many other small towns, has experienced the challenges of an aging and shrinking population. By embracing diversity and welcoming immigrants, Lancaster has a powerful opportunity to overcome these challenges. The impact of welcoming immigrants extends far beyond a single celebratory week. As newcomers settle in Lancaster, they infuse the community with fresh perspectives, entrepreneurial spirit, and a willingness to contribute to the community’s growth. They fill gaps in the workforce, start businesses, and support existing ones, ultimately bolstering the local economy.

The Growing Lancaster group meets on the second Wednesday of the month at 10 am and all community members are welcome to join!
